The idea that potatoes can grow on Mars soil may not be such a crazy idea. According to NASA's announcement in partnership with the International Potato Center to see if this is actually possible.
The experiment will use the soil that is considered almost identical to that found on Mars, located in the Pampas de La Joya desert in the south of Peru.
The researchers will then replicate the atmosphere of Mars in the laboratory, including 95.32% of carbon dioxide and 0.13% of oxygen.
Given the importance of carbon dioxide in photosynthesis, it's predicted this massive gas increase could boost potato crop by 2 or 3 times the normal found on Earth.
